The Artists
Candid Antics
Candid Antics is a six-piece fusion band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Coining the term “party-fusion”, their music draws from the traditions of the golden era of fusion and brings it into the modern age with unparalleled energy. The band formed organically through the jam/open mic scene in Grand Rapids. After playing together without structure for almost a year, they finally called upon each other to start something more official and the six founding members began the candid journey. Playing their first show January of 2023, they haven’t looked back as they began gaining local popularity and eventually nationwide recognition. Currently their debut album “Sounds Like Music” is their most recent publication with plans for many more on the way.
Candid Antics are one of those groups that could play for 3 hours and you wouldn’t mind. The harmony and chemistry that one feels/acknowledges when listening to them is uncanny. Its not often that you can just hear/see a band and know that they understand each one of their talents, strong suites, and adeptness in their craft. The respect that each member shows for their instruments allows for seamless transitions and solos that are rarely seen from such a young group, let alone any group. They deliver a fat jam foundation with well-constructed non-linear progression that carries the listener from point A to B, then back to A, with a little Q and R, eventually leading you to Z. Whether you are entranced by the epic fusion, or wooking it up to the jam, Candid Antics is sure to get you on your feet and grooving. We are more than honored to host them and cant wait for them rock Grewal Hall.
Hypnoasis
Although from Lansing, Hypnoasis (Nate Jones) spins like a mad man in a Costco who just discovered Kirkland Lager and the $1.50 hotdog. Sporadic house beats with a side of calmness that often erupts into a cornucopia of different sounds that unexpectedly work. His understanding of music theory and vast knowledge of many genres allow for him to create quick punchy transitions that allow for more malleability than the traditional House/EDM artist delivers. One can expect heavy BPM, constant wubs, and that sweet sweet riddim.
Nate is one of the kindest people I have had the pleasure of meeting, and I am glad to have him as a friend. He has been a constant positive light in our lives and we are beyond thankful for his efforts to make us feel welcomed here in Michigan. The dude knows how to party, and embodies the essence of Michigan that we have grown to love.
SCRWNY
SCRWNY (Michael Novak) is a perfect example of what the EDM scene is all about. Good vibes, love, kindness, and passion. Focusing on Hybrid Trap and providing those dirty Hip-Hop tones that roll into the perfect drop, he forces you into a realm of chaos that grips you like the ambrosia of 30hz. Dirty, mean, hardcore, and methodical are adjectives to expect when attending a SCRWNY set. Nothing is off limits and the unexpected should be assumed.
The most important people in the EDM scene are the ones who operate in the background. Doing their best to make sure people like Ali and I are able to have an amazing time for a few hours. These people understand the art, culture, and hard work that goes into putting on a show that’s worth seeing. These are the folks who exist in the realm of thanklessness, missing the show they are providing for, all in the name of furthering the scene. SCRWNY is one of these people. Over the past year or so, Michael has been an integral part to my experience in the EDM scene. He is not only the one who sells me merch, but is also the first person I make an effort to see at each show. He is always in a good mood, always willing to give me a hug, 6 feet 4 inches, and genuinely cares about everyone around him. He wants nothing more than for people to be happy, and that makes me happy. We are honored to have the privilege of showcasing his work and giving him the opportunity to throw down.
